Special Treat!

Posted in Drawings with tags , , , on July 26, 2008 by jlebourhis

It’s been a long time coming. Here’s the drawing I promised. Took some doodleling while I was waiting after my computer to render some stuff for my portfolio. I was inspired by a scene I was writing at the time. I scanned the drawing and went all out photoshop on it!

Now, this is like a preview of sorts, this is a scene that should pop up in just a few weeks, I’ll let you know but I think it’ll be obvious which scene it’s representing.

So before I spoil anything storyline wise … I’m just gonna post this thing!

Better late than never …

This was supposed to be up last night! But that little voice kept telling me it wasn’t ready … it still is but heck! There! I’ll show you where I’m at nonetheless!

Here’s a neat 3/4 look at him. These colors are just temporary references for the modeling, the texture stage hasn’t even started yet! Here’s a closer look at his face and most notably, his hair:

I’ll keep working on this now, so until next time!

The Clowns of Today

So here we go, Part 4 and the drawing as promised … though I think I’m a little late (past midnight! Oh no!).

Going through the history of the characters got me inspired to do a modern take on a drawing I posted here.

It took me a long time to finish it, one of the reasons was to nail down the designs and colors for each character. The brick wall took an entire day, it went through different versions. I could still have spent much more time on the textures of the background but the idea was to update these characters.

For those who know me and know the other stories I’m working on, there’s a little easter egg in there. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about: Another Blog will be coming shortly featuring an entirely different group of characters and their adventures. But that storyline is huge and it’s going to take me a while to set it up. So keep tuning in!

Alright, here’s the drawing! Hope you like it!

The Clowns of Today

Classy

Posted in Drawings with tags , , , , on February 28, 2008 by jlebourhis

Today’s another drawing of Bugsy, this time in the version that came just before the one I’ve ended up with. Most of the ideas are there, the tuxedo, the bow-tie and all. The only thing left was to bastardise that idea, make it something that’s realizable by a young man making himself a costume with things he’s picked up left and right.

Most of the characters taking part in the street fights in the story will take some pleasure into creating themselves a persona, a character and its costume. Jack in the Box takes great pride in being extravagant and being the showman while Hooli brings culture, theatrics and takes much care into the preparation of her costume, much as a sports fanatic paints himself up to feel like he belongs to his team. Mabel the Mime sees this as another show and relishes the attention she gets through these events while Yobbo the Clown does it to look good, to please his own ego.

Now Bugsy is a different case. His personality and his state of mind is reflected through the look and care he brings to his costume as well, however he’s straight to the point and straight to business in these events and is costume is pure and simple. There’s little attention brought to his make-up, it’s often the last second addition and his clothing only inspire the idea of a clown, meaning that without his big red nose and green hair he would most likely go by unnoticed.

So here he is in a slightly more thought-out and prepared appearance that came before the idea of the story came.

The Guy is Angry

One of those drawings where I tried to portray a strong expression of anger. There’s isn’t much else I have to say about this one. Enjoy.

Bugsy in the Future?!

Posted in Drawings with tags , , , , on February 26, 2008 by jlebourhis

Yes, at one point in those many years where I was trying to figure out the right recipe I once thought of Bugsy the Clown taking place in the future … though I think the story at this point is timeless, however it still has to be urban and in the modern world of industrialisation. There isn’t anything fundamentally wrong with this idea, I just don’t like it anymore … but I’m still sharing a drawing of the idea!

A cool sketch

Here’s the Dark Joker Lord in his most recent drawing, maybe two or three years old. There’s still something interesting about the character’s look, I think the character is really cool but that’s on a purely visual basis.

Character Sketches

Posted in Drawings with tags , , , , , on February 25, 2008 by jlebourhis

Sorry about the lack of updates this week-end, there was some work that had to be done. I’ll make up for it this week but for now I thought I’d show some character sketches I’ve been doing.

Huo Yuanjia: Father of Shan Tsai. Leader of the Chinese Mafia in the city. He’s begun an unhealthy business relationship with the mayor and is digging his claws in. Little by little, he manages to manipulate and buy the most powerful people. He seldom ventures outside his penthouse inside his tower, Yuanjia Enterprises.

Sensei: The wise old man who taught Brandon Kung Fu and tried to instill discipline and self control in him. They have parted ways since a few years now, however Brandon still goes to him for council.

Uncle Leo: Brandon’s uncle, he lived with him for a few years before moving out on his own. He now works for him at the old port docks. Times are rough for the company but Leonard does everything he can to help Brandon keep his head above water in these hard times.

Mom: The only good thing about his childhood, Brandon’s mother was a sweet, caring and loving woman that was trapped in a turmoil of a relationship. She was quite protective of Brandon but she could do little to help him as she was also a victim of the violent household.

Father: A lot of people have nightmares about monsters and demons, if Brandon would accept to talk about it he’d let you know his father embodied both. There was no physical contact between the two that was not violent or aggressive and Brandon has a few scars to show for it.

Bugsy in a suit

Posted in Drawings with tags , , , , , on February 23, 2008 by jlebourhis

A few days ago I mentioned I had done this interpretation of the Clowns in business suits. Here’s two pictures, one of Bugsy and the other of the Clowns in that fashion but I ultimately dropped that idea because it took all the clown aspect out of the characters, it was too serious looking. Nothing like the old penguin tuxedo and bow-tie combo!
